The concepts of current affairs (l’actualité) and everyday life (le quotidien) are linked to the ways in which information circulates within societies. They are therefore subject to historical transformations in relation to changes in social structures and to the availability and development of the technical means used to transmit and use information. In order to analyse these modalities semiotically, the notions of spatial, temporal and actorial aspectualisation prove particularly useful. They allow to account for the internal articulations of the various modes of information production, distribution and consumption. From this perspective, actuality and everyday life appear as notions that have been changing in recent years, as the diffusion of portable and always-connected means of communication, such as mobile phones, modifies the proximity relations between actors by redefining the spaces and times of interaction.
