Abstract

This article aims to analyze and present some of the reasons that may have led the Roman Empire to launch a major persecution against the followers of Jesus Christ in the first century. Throughout the text, three pillars that supported imperial dominance will be highlighted: religion, the glorification of strength rooted in a culture of war, and the family structure. These three foundations were frequently challenged by the apostles’ preaching, and the spread of two core Christian ideas posed a direct threat to the authority and legitimacy of Rome’s control over the world. This clash played a decisive role in triggering state-led persecution, as imperial structures were systematically confronted in apostolic writings.
