Students who witness bullying at school are essential to addressing the problem. This study aimed to explore adolescents’ collective perceptions of bullying situations they witnessed at school. Four focus group sessions were conducted, with 11 boys and nine girls participating in each session, making a total of 20 participants. The groups were structured at key moments, and the results were analyzed thematically. Adolescents demonstrated a good theoretical understanding of the phenomenon, and four main themes emerged from the data: 1) differentiating between playfulness and violence; 2) unpreparedness to recognize the phenomenon or help victims; 3) initiatives to resolve witnessed situations; and 4) barriers to addressing the problem created by the school or adults. There were no significant differences between girls and boys in the discussions, but girls demonstrated more empathy towards victims. The results highlight the importance of strategies that value the role of observers in addressing the problem.
