CORDEL LITERATURE: CONCEPTS, INTELLECTUALS, ARCHIVES

Abstract

This article investigates the intellectual production on cordel literature and its institutionalization as a field of study in Brazil. It analyzes the concepts mobilized by two intellectual matrices: folk studies and academic research. It problematizes how, from the formation of the National State, the literature considered "popular" has a strategic role in the construction of the national identity. This political and cultural project gave rise to studies, collections of poems and preservation actions, resulting in a vast intellectual production. Therefore, we will investigate the correlations between the concepts, the studies and the practices monumentalization of the cordel leaflets through the creation of archives
