Abstract

The text presents the conception of the soul in Husserl and Edith Stein. The Husserlian approach is structured in three stages: first, I consider the soul as Husserl clarifies it from the natural attitude, in which it is immediately experienced as inner life, the life of consciousness, and understood in its unity with the living body as constituting the human being naturalized in the world. Second, I present transcendental subjectivity as the primordial subjective life. Finally, I examine Husserl’s interpretation of the soul from the perspective of transcendental life as an objectification of it.

In the second part of the text, I present Stein’s approach to the soul, focusing on the path she finds through affective experiences, which reveal the depth of interiority and thereby offer a richer understanding of the being and meaning of the soul. I conclude that the different interpretations of the meaning of the soul stem from the methodological decision regarding transcendental reduction.
